The Owens Academy for Exceptional Learners utilizes the Georgia Performance Standard curriculum for all students. This is the Georgia Department of Education approved curriculum for all public schools. Most of our students come to us from public schools and therefore are very familiar with the curriculum components in core subjects of math, science, English/language arts, and social studies both general and advanced placement. Physical education and Spanish are taught each semester. Because our class sizes are small, we provide one on one attention and instruction.
We have a state of the art technology with internet and other resources, an updated library, and a full gym for physical education and other school activities and functions.
Because we employ a highly structured, research-based model of teaching and learning, our curriculum includes very small classes, life skills courses such as conflict resolution, time management, study skills and character education. Our supplemental courses include leadership development, technology, theology, international studies and driver's education. We have an outstanding apprentice work program for students of working age to begin earning their own income.
